Speaker Application Process
Application Guidelines
Who can Apply?

Everyone! Applications are open to the public and we encourage you to submit an application if you would like to contribute.

If you have applied to Devcon VI Bogota, we strongly recommend to use the same account as you won’t have to submit your information once again, and it allows us to recommend your talks to attendees based on last editions’ data.

What should I talk about?

Devcon covers topics and themes that are crucial in the Ethereum ecosystem right now, addressing challenges, ongoing developments, and core Ethereum values. The tracks will feature talks, workshops, panels, and more from beginner to expert level.

Devcon Talks Wishlist

We encourage creative and novel content for Devcon. That being said, we also want specific ideas to be covered. If you don’t feel creative, or if you have knowledge about one of the suggested topic, you can apply to talk about it too (does not guarantee to be selected).

Topics to Avoid

• Promotional or purely “commercial” talks will not be accepted.

• Devcon is not a place to shill your solution, it is about sharing knowledge.

• Thailand has a lèse-majesté law that makes it illegal to defame, insult, or threaten the monarch of Thailand, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison *per offense*. The law is still in active use.

• Stablecoins pegged to the Thai baht (or “baht-backed stablecoins”) stablecoins are forbidden.

What types of session can I apply to give?

Talk

A 20-minute presentation on a topic of your choice with 5 minutes for Q&A (optional).

Workshop

A 80, 110, 170-minute workshop on a topic of your choice. Workshops are hands-on sessions centered around a problem to be solved, or geared at helping attendees learn skills, such as “How to run your own Node”.

Panel

A 50-minute panel discussion on a topic or challenge. You can have up to 5 panelists plus a moderator.

Lightning Talk

5-minute presentation with 2 minutes for Q&A.

• All decisions (final) will be sent progressively, as quickly as possible.

• By the end of August, first decisions will be made. Expect all decisions to be final by the end of September.

NOTE: We want everyone to be able to plan affordable travel if they want to attend Devcon. Opening applications early in the summer allows applicants ample time to prepare their applications, reviewers time to carefully review each application, and applicants to know many months in advance whether or not their application has been accepted.

Review Process

• Each track has its own reviewing committee, consisting of a team lead and a diverse set of experts.

• Each application will be reviewed by multiple members of the review team. All reviewers’ scores are weighted equally.

• Talks will be selected on aggregate scores from the criteria below:

Review Criteria
Decision

The speaker application process is very competitive and unfortunately, this may mean that quality talks are not selected due to time and space constraints.

• By the end of August, first decisions will be made. Expect all decisions to be final by the end of September.

• You will be notified of the status of your application once all applications have been carefully reviewed by our committee of experts.

• Reviewers’ decisions are final, and there is no appeal process, but there are lots of ways to contribute to Devcon if your application is not accepted.

All accepted speakers hosting talks, workshops, or panels will receive a ticket to attend Devcon. If you already purchased a ticket by the time you receive your confirmation, you will be able to get a refund. Lightning Talk speakers will be able to purchase a discounted ticket.
